داستان کتاب در مورد چیست؟

داستان در مورد حیوانات اهلی ساکن در یک مزرعه هست که از بهره‌کشی بیش ار حد مالک مزرعه (آقای جونز) خسته شدن و تصمیم می‌گیرن که بنابر توصیه قبل از مرگ یکی از حیوانات، دست به شورش بزنن.

پس از پیروزی این انقلاب، خوک‌ها که هوش بیشتری نسبت به بقیه داشتن، رهبری گروه را بر عهده می‌گیرن و پست و وظایف را میان اعضا با توجه به توانایی‌های آن‌ها تقسیم و قوانین اساسی خود را وضع می‌کنن و روی دیوار مزرعه می‌نویسن. قوانین به این ترتیب هستن:

  1. همه آنها که روی دوپا راه می‌روند دشمن هستند.
  2. همه آنها که چهارپا یا بالدار هستند، دوستند.
  3. هیچ حیوانی حق پوشیدن لباس را ندارد.
  4. هیچ حیوانی حق خوابیدن در تخت را ندارد.
  5. هیچ حیوانی حق نوشیدن الکل را ندارد.
  6. هیچ حیوانی حق کشتن حیوان دیگری را ندارد.
  7. همهٔ حیوانات با هم برابرند.

اما پس از گذشت مدتی، میان خوک‌ها اختلاف ایجاد می‌شه و یکی از اون‌ها که مخفیانه چند سگ را برای محافظت از خود تربیت کرده، دیگری را فراری می‌ده و کنترل همه‌چیز رو در دست می‌گیره.

در ادامه، خوکی که رئیس شده تعدادی از حیوانات را به جرم همکاری با خوک فراری داده‌شده اعدام می‌کنه و با سیاست و سؤ استفاده از سادگی بقیه، اون‌ها را مجبور به کار کردن در ازای دریافت غذای بسیار کم می‌کنه.

خوکی که رئیس شده پس از مدتی، امکانات و ثروت بیشتری برای خود فراهم می‌کنه و یاد میگيره که چطور مثل انسان‌ها روی دو پا راه بره و با اون‌ها معامله کنه. پس مدتی هم دست به تحریف قوانین اساسی مزرعه می‌زنه. برای مثال برخی از اون‌ها را صورت زیر در میاره:

  • چهارپا خوب و دوپا بهتر.
  • هیچ حیوانی بی‌دلیل دیگری را نمی‌کشد.
  • همه حیوانات باهم برابرند، اما بعضی برابرترند.

در اواخر داستان تمام شش قانون اول از روی دیوار پاک شده و فقط قانون هفتم به صورت تحریف‌شده باقی می‌مونه.

کتاب قلعه حیوانات در واقع به‌طور غیرمستقیم به شرایط حاکم بر شوروی سابق اشاره می‌کنه. و در واقع شرایط اون مزرعه، شخصیت‌ها و حیوانات این داستان رو میشه به بسیاری از جامعه‌ها، شخصیت‌ها و رهبرهای دنیای واقعی نگاشت کرد.
